Nature of Work

Under the supervision of the Branch Manager, serves as a coordinator within the Carnegie Branch for an assigned area of library services with limited system-wide responsibilities. Plans, directs and personally performs all activities in the delivery of services in the area of assignment. Supervises employees within the Circulation Department.

Examples of Work

  • Plans and directs all the services and programs involved in the area of assignment that include overall management activities and direction of Carnegie circulation staff activities.
  • Assists in the preparation of the budget for the area of assignment.
  • Monitors budgets for the area of assignment in order to stay within budgetary limitations. Manages, reconciles and reports cash r
  • Prepares various reports regarding the use of department services and programs, describing and evaluating services for library administrative use.
  • Receives and answers questions from library patrons regarding assigned department services and policies. Directs patrons to various other library departments, facilities and specialized reference materials, as necessary.
  • Performs the duties of other department staff members as needed, including recommending books and materials, and performing other library duties as needed.
  • Explains library policies and procedures keeping employees informed of changes in the library system.
  • Attends various seminars, conferences and workshops and reads various journals, magazines and professional publications to keep current on the latest methods and techniques in library
  • Performs various custodial and maintenance duties in order to maintain the library's appearance and safety of the public.
  • Performs various procedures as workloads, absences, or temporary workloads dictate.



Employment Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area.
  • A minimum of three to five years of progressively more responsible library experience.
  • Ability to meet and deal with the public in a pleasant, enthusiastic manner
  • Ability to organize personal work responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Basic familiarity with library operations desirable
  • Ability to calculate and compile simple statistical data
  • Ability to do routine and repetitive work for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 15 pounds or more as designated
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with fellow employees as well as with the public
  • Willingness to work day, evening, Saturday and Sunday work schedules
